Once Upon a Time in Deposition: Taking Better Depositions to Tell Better Stories

  • Presented by: Chris Arledge

To persuade, we must tell persuasive stories. We know this; we hear all the time that lawyers must be storytellers. But storytelling for lawyers is an intentional process. We cannot create a story the same way a novelist or filmmaker might. We must discover and develop our story and we must take depositions with this goal in mind if we are to tell effective stories to the judge or jurors. In this webcast, you will learn how to:

    • Focus on storytelling in deposition to help you avoid holes in your story later.
    • Use fact-gathering in deposition to tell stories in cross-examination.
    • Leverage the facts you have into additional, useful facts.
    • Stop chasing conclusions and instead capture the building blocks of a narrative.
